Let’s take a trip around the world! Celebrate cultures and people from across the globe by exploring a variety of traditions and how they are preserved. Each month will feature a different heritage community, children’s book, and applicable craft. In March, we’ll focus on Jewish American heritage. We will be reading Bring Back the Babka! by Marilyn Wolpin with illustrations by Madison Safer, and we’ll be making paper Purim grogger flip drums.

Prepare to welcome the Year of the Snake with lion dancing and musical performances at the Kennedy Center on the Millennium Stage! This year’s musical performance will feature Stephanie Chou, a Chinese American jazz composer, saxophonist, and singer.
Grupo Fénix is a Washington, D.C.–based collective of musicians focused on preserving and promoting musical genres from Mexican and other Latin American cultures.

M-NCPPC Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County is pleased to announce its 7th annual Celebrate Africa Festival on September 22, 2024 – recognized in Prince George’s County, Maryland as African Heritage Month.
The festival acknowledges the contributions and impact of the African immigrant community on Prince George’s County and the greater DMV area, and celebrates the beauty, vibrancy, and cultural relevance of the work of African artisans, crafts persons, musicians and performing artists. The festival aims to promote cultural awareness and understanding between the African immigrant and other communities.
This extraordinary evening of uplifting music will be conducted by Larry Harrison, Jason Breland, Mark Harden, Dr. James Melton, Jasen Brown and Daniel Mojica, and will feature a unique blend of Patriotic and Gospel music.
Evelyn Harris and Kim Jordan reunite at Sisterfire after 40 years. They are joined by Michelle Lanchester, Marcia Gomes, and Yasmeen Williams. Sisterfire is a cross-generational celebration of resistance, coalition, and emancipatory imagination, creativity, and performance in the arts.

The City of College Park hosts a series of concerts over the summer and you are invited!
Join us on the plaza at the City Hall building on select Fridays for Friday Night LIVE! The events will feature a variety of musical genres and performers and will include something for everyone, music, food, beer, and entertainment. There will be children’s performers, a bounce house, kids activities and arts and crafts.
All concerts will be held at City Hall Plaza (7401 Baltimore Avenue) between May -September from 6:30 to 8:30PM. Parking will be offered for free at the Downtown College Park parking garage at the corner of Yale and Knox. Local food and beer will be available for purchase during the event!

Fireworks are one of the greatest things about Independence Day celebrations, and as part of the birthday festivities, the National Park Services and partners host a spectacular fireworks show in the heart of the nation’s capital. They can be observed from several spots. You can watch them on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, from the National Mall, or from another side of the Potomac River in Arlington. The fireworks show is quite long and usually starts at 9 pm.
