Take an art appreciation class where students are introduced to famous paintings created by 18th and 19th century American artists. Students will observe, reflect, and use critical thinking to determine the meaning behind various works of art. Students will complete a sketch to create a story of their own. 

In this one-of-a-kind storytelling session, songwriter and national poetry slam champion IN-Q will guide attendees from performance and prompts into writing and sharing exercises.

Join us for Dance Sanctuaries, a free movement-based classes in the REACH. Dancers are invited for three one-hour structured classes & an optional Open House Hour. Instructors and class schedules will be announced at a later date.

We are a collaboration of 5 young dancers whose mission it is to maintain and perpetuate traditional African culture and to create a supportive, noncompetitive, positive, and nurturing environment for the expression of that culture. With the assistance and unyielding support of our brothers, we are able to connect with our community in a way that allows us to share our passion.

5 The Hard Way is the first of its kind. 5 instructors, 6 Classes, 5 different traditional West African rhythms, 5 minutes apart and one final collaborative class to bring it all together. Where you may fall short in stamina, you will be lifted by the amazing energy of family and community healing, celebration and cultural exchange.

Each of our Fab Five have worked as professional performers and lecturers in the art of traditional West African Dance. They have all worked under and with world renowned choreographers and musicians. They have traveled and performed nationally and internationally from villages to internationally known establishments and institutions. They have each taken the up the responsibility of sustaining and perpetuating culture.

Inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe, participants will explore the magnification of flowers in a garden, transitioning art from realistic to abstract mixed media. Silk flowers are used to inspire an extreme close up of petals, stems, and leaves to create colorintense abstract art. Mixed media pressure shading techniques are taught. Materials provided. What do Marc Chagall’s paintings of Passover themes reveal about him? How does Chagall’s art portray the interconnection of Passover motifs in both Jewish and Christian traditions? How would you depict the creation of man and woman, and what does that say about you? What color was Jacob’s dream and did he dream in color? Between 1956 to 1966, Marc Chagall painted a series of large canvases depicting popular Biblical narratives. Join Rabbi Emeritus Gary Fink for a creative, interactive look at these paintings in light of Biblical narratives, rabbinic midrash, and your imagination. The first session will deal with Passover-themed art and the second will focus on other Biblical narratives. The class will be held on Sunday April 9 (Hol Hamoed Passover & Easter Sunday) and Sunday April 16, from 10:30-11:30am at Oseh Shalom. Expertise in Torah text or art history is not necessary.

Moving Wisdom West African Dance Class is an outdoor class designed for seniors who love to sing, dance, and drum. Students will enjoy learning traditional dances, chants, and rhythms from Guinea, Senegal, and Mali. The class consists of moderate stretching, cardio, and crafted African Movements.
