Stop by Riversdale House Museum as we kick off Hispanic Heritage month by offering a FREE Guided tour of the historic house in Spanish, a demonstration of 19th century, open hearth cooking using modern recipes from Mexico, El Salvador, and Guatemala, from the Riversdale Kitchen Guild, and a Chamber Concert themed for this special month.

Learn about the long history of eel and other seafood in the Potomac River and how the many cultures along the river have subsisted on seafood. Our guest, Chef Terrance Murphy of Meallennial Living, will be preparing a dish inspired by the traditional foods of this region using a mix of seasonal and foraged ingredients. Registrants will receive a recipe card. Drop-in anytime between 1-3 pm for this free program. Donations accepted.

This demonstration takes place outdoors on the National Colonial Farm. Unvaccinated visitors over the age of 2 years are asked to wear masks, during the program, and all visitors are required to wear a mask inside the Visitor Center and other public buildings.

Dance and Orchestra Music: As a prelude to the National Symphony Orchestra’s dance-inspired program conducted by Maestro Gianandrea Noseda, take part in a dance lesson and demonstration featuring some of the African American and European social dances to be featured in the orchestra’s performance.

Both Rosalie Calvert and her son, Charles Benedict, ran commercial dairy enterprises at Riversdale. Join us for a day of presentations featuring speakers from Colonial Williamsburg, Genesee Country Village, and Hampton Historic Site on the duties of the dairymaid, period correct cattle breeds, and investigations of Tidewater dairy buildings. Lunch, demonstrations, and cheese tasting included. Reservations required. ($)

During the "Making Our Mark" exhibit, seven artists will lead free activities which will include demonstrations of printmaking techniques, guided hands-on printmaking activities, and tours of the “Making Our Mark” exhibition. All ages are welcome.
