The Underground Railroad: Freedom Seekers On The B&O Railroad

The Underground Railroad: Freedom Seekers on the B&O Railroad examines the role of the physical railroad in the Underground Railroad network and gives an intimate look at the lives and journeys of 27 individuals who sought freedom from slavery along the B&O. The exhibition is located in the museum’s historic Mt. Clare Station – a National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Site and the exact location through which eight Freedom Seekers, including Henry “Box” Brown and William and Ellen Craft, traveled. The exhibition also examines the Black travel experience during this time as well as the use of railroad terminology as a secret, coded language for Freedom Seekers.

B&O Community Day

The B&O Railroad Museum welcomes everyone to its first of three free Community Days at the B&O this summer.  The first community day is on Saturday, June 19th, in honor of Juneteenth day.

This summer, join us for Community Days at the B&O! We’re thankful for the opportunity to offer free Museum admission on Sat, June 19, and Sundays, July 18 & August 8, so members of our community can enjoy tours, family-friendly activities, and free train rides at the B&O.

The focus of our B&O Community Days is the B&O Street Art Project, which selected local four street artists to design murals on the theme of connectedness and paint them onto a caboose here at the Museum. During the first Community Day on Sat, June 19, we’re proudly unveiling the results of our Street Art Project with an art exhibit reception, and on Sundays, July 18 & August 8, visitors will get to attend Artist Talks to hear from the artists about the process of designing and creating these incredible works of art.
